美國2016年總統大選首場候選人電視辯論會，台北時間27日上午9點展開，首位美國主要政黨提名的女性總統候選人對上非典型共和黨政治人物，希拉蕊和川普兩人唇槍舌戰。前行政院發言人、台師大教授胡幼偉則形容這場辯論會「像台灣藍綠政客鬥嘴」。
胡幼偉說，川普選擇做他自己，毫不掩飾；希拉蕊畢竟在政壇打滾久了，改不了穩健政客的說話模式。整場辯論過程中，真正比較涉及政策理論交鋒的，是兩人在經濟政策上的差異。川普想給企業減稅，把出走的產業拉回美國本土，以創造就業機會；希拉蕊則是想讓富人多交稅，拿這些錢來扶持中小企業和照顧弱勢者。胡幼偉認為，這倒也符合共和與民主兩黨一貫不同的政經意識型態。
至於國際社會關心的美國外交政策與國防安全，胡幼偉認為，川普不想讓美國再做世界警察，要老美協防，請交保護費；希拉蕊則是仍偏向以外交手段和提供資源，維持美國在全球的影響力。
至於國內安全方面，胡幼偉表示，川普講的比較空洞，只強調法律與秩序的重要性；希拉蕊聽起來比較有整套改善治安及警民關係的方案。至於種族問題，太敏感，川普與希拉蕊都強調自己沒有種族偏見。但希拉蕊最後指出，川普有種族偏見及歧視女性的不良紀錄。
胡幼偉最後結論指出，「如果我是美國公民，我還是會支持希拉蕊」，他認為選川普太冒險了。
